Why ACPQ needs your financial support?
WHY a Membership fee?
Membership fees are necessary in order to advance the aims and objectives
of our association and to support the efforts of pursuing our mission to
put the action plan in place.
The revenues collected from the membership fees will be ACPQ’s main
source of income, adding to what can be generated from grants or subsidies,
sponsorships, or other potential sources of income such as capital gains
or revenues coming from registration for activities of the association.
WHY pay the membership fee?
Some will pay it to benefit from services and additional privileges offered
by ACPQ such as those of its web site (eg., active member’s corner),
e-journal, reduced registration fees for association’s activities,
etc.
Others will pay it to support ACPQ in its commitment to its mission and
purpose of providing better working conditions as well as helping its members
face the daily rigours of their profession and motivating young graduates
to become independent investigators.
And finally, others will pay the membership fee as, besides being particularly
proud of their profession, they will want to demonstrate that this show
of professional solidarity is indispensable in stimulating the prestige
of the professional researcher and all that the profession represents and
needs.
WHO will determine the fate and insure the viability of ACPQ?
How to become an active member?
The status of active member is given to an associate
member who pays the
annual membership fee.
Rights and privileges:
An active member has the right to vote and is eligible to serve as an ACPQ
officer. Added benefits include reduced fees, other “pricing” advantages,
access to ACPQ’s web site - the “members’ corner” -
and other preferential treatment.
The right to vote is imperative; it embodies the member’s power to
validate a principle, register a conviction or a deeply felt concern and
make his/her viewpoint count.
HOW?
ACPQ’s action plan will address the need to reform and\or improve
the professional status of researchers, their work environment and their
working conditions. In order to be integrated into ACPQ’s action plan,
a specific proposal will require the backing of a majority vote of the active
members, thereby, defining and recognizing the will of the active
member through a majority decision.
Among the main dossiers basing the action plan, we cite:

Professional status with an emphasis on eliminating its present precarious state;

Funding: the process and award system of operating grants, contracts, cross-over funds (emergency-type bridging funds)

Working conditions – i.e. basic compensation, bonuses, pension fund, etc.

Work environment – i.e. communications, laboratory space and basic services, etc.

Training for professional researchers
-
Partnership agreement
-
Fundamentals of contractual agreements with institutional partners
-
Intellectual property
-
Code of ethics and professional conduct
-
Professional researcher’s active participation in social affairs and public debate

ACPQ provides several dues options for each membership category. The membership terms end on January 31st 2008.
Membership fees for new members for the year 2007 :
i- For independent researchers, e.g., those receiving an operational grant currently or have received one, in their name, in the past, the annual membership fee is $150.00.
ii- For professional researchers currently completing their training (post-doctoral students) or for those who have completed their training but are currently in a transition phase (research associates), the annual membership fee is $50.00 .
iii- For retired professional researchers invited to join ACPQ as special members, the annual membership fee is $50.00.
